What better place to visit on a bank holiday in August than York – a northern British town filled with history, high tea, and plenty of tourists!
York is a great town to visit for a day, with lots of tiny streets that will keep you exploring until your train home.
York Minster & Gardens
This gorgeous cathedral is a great place to start your walking tour for the day. It can be seen from miles away, but up close it’s even more majestic than from afar.
I also explored the museum gardens, full of old ruins and beautiful greenery.
City Walls
One of the most interesting parts of York is the city wall that surrounds the city. I took a lovely (but scary!) walk along the wall, and captured great views of the city from up high
The Shambles & City Centre
The Shambles is one of the many tiny, medieval streets that fills the city centre. This street has old buildings that date back as early as 1350, and are still preserved today! Beyond the Shambles, the entire city centre is just a maze of medieval shops, perfect for strolling around
High Tea
A trip to York wouldn’t be complete without an afternoon high tea. There are so many locations to choose from, but we went with Betty’s Tea Rooms @ Stonegate. It did not disappoint!
If high tea isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other yummy treats to buy – especially in the summer heat.
A Family Place
Aside from all the treats and sweets we enjoyed, the best treat of them all was spending the day there with family :)
