After travelling around Rome, I caught a train to Salerno and started my Amalfi Coast adventure.
3 days filled with steep cliffs, bright blue seas, colourful buildings and all the lemons I could ever dream of.
Day 1: Atrani
From Salerno, I caught the ferry to Amalfi and walked over to Atrani.
Atrani is the neighbouring village to Amalfi town. It’s much smaller than Amalfi and has a much more local feel, with only one or two restaurants and shops.
Climbing up to the AirBnB with luggage was a trek. Staying in a cliffside village requires lots of steep stair climbs… but it’s totally worth it for the view!

The beach in Atrani is small and a bit rocky, but still a nice place to take a walk on a sunny day.

On my first day, I bought fresh Italian tomatoes, deli meats and bread from a local salumeria and made my own panini feast with bruschetta.
After taking in the breathtaking views, I went for a walk in the night around town. I made it outside just in time for a surprise fireworks show over the sea! Solid end to a solid day.

Day 2: Amalfi
On day two, I walked over to Amalfi. It’s only a 20 minute walk away from Atrani, but fairly different in its vibe. There are lots of tourists, tourist-related shops, and touristy sights to be seen like the Amalfi Cathedral.
The weather was getting real stormy in the distance, but I managed to walk around town before taking shelter.

The lemons in Amalfi Coast are HUGE and there are lemon groves everywhere. Lemons in the trees, in the markets, painted in the street signs, and in all the food. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade… so I did just that.
I also tried a strong lemon liqueur called ‘limoncello’ that is served in tiny painted lemon glasses; a specialty of Southern Italy.

Day 3: Positano
On day three, I was supposed to catch the ferry over to Positano, but due to the rough seas it was cancelled. The other way to get there is by bus – the life or death bus – driving along the windy coast on a tiny road! I made it alive, and was pretty glad I did; because that view…….

Positano is way nicer than Atrani or Amalfi in that it’s all freshly painted and well kept. There were tourists there, but it didn’t feel too overcrowded. I grabbed lunch with a view and explored all the streets.

There are massive cacti everywhere and they made me really happy. Look at these cactus vines and trees!
