3 days of adventures in Edinburgh, Scotland filled with comedy, castles, pastries, history, and a beautiful view.
The Train from King's Cross
Leaving from King’s Cross Station, I couldn’t help but take pictures of the architecture.
On the 5-hour train trip up to Edinburgh, I passed through a few British towns and a lot of farmland with sheep.
Suddenly the landscape changed to rocky cliffs, beaches, and adorable old towns with remains of old castles throughout. That’s when I knew we’d crossed over to Scotland.
Walking Around Edinburgh
Getting off the train at Edinburgh Waverley station was no different. I was immediately surrounded by the city’s awesome medieval vibes. Full of hills, trees, old architecture, big windows, and castles in the distance – what’s not to love?
The Fringe Festival
I was in for an extra treat visiting in August, as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival runs all month. I spent the weekend enjoying tons of free comedy shows, art displays, jugglers, busker shows, street food, and live theatre. The festival literally takes over the city with over 50,000 performances!
Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is a sight not to miss. While you can see the castle up on the hills from almost anywhere in the city, it’s definitely worth making a trip inside. I loved exploring the castle grounds, learning about its rich history, and getting free Scottish whisky samples.
Arthur's Seat
My last day in Edinburgh was super sunny and warm, so I decided to make a trek up 800 feet above the city to Arthur’s Seat.
I loved every minute of it, and once I reached the top (wearing street shoes and carrying unnecessary jackets) I was exhausted, but still smiling!
I ate some fruit, took pictures of the views, enjoyed perfect full-bar cell reception, hung out with some ravens, and took a moment to relax on top of the world.
The Best Cafe in Edinburgh
Another highlight from the weekend was a delicious breakfast at a math-inspired cafe, Twelve Triangles. With fresh baked bread, homemade doughnuts (!!), yummy pastries and all the warm drinks you could ask for, it was basically all of our favourite things at once.
At least they were playing some great tracks like this one.
