Japan is known for many things, but coffee probably isn't one of them. When exploring this beautiful country last spring, I stumbled upon some pretty great coffee shops in Kyoto and surrounding area that are too nice not to share.
1. Cafe Bibliotic Hello! - Kyoto
Cafe Bibliotic Hello! is exactly as it sounds - a cheerful, welcoming coffee shop full of books in the heart of Kyoto. Filled with both locals and non-locals, this chill cafe is the perfect place to take a break after a long day exploring the city. Also, the plants outside & inside were A+.
2. Blue Bottle Coffee - Kyoto
While Blue Bottle Coffee is not native to Japan, add it to your list if you want a modern experience inside an unassuming Japanese building. I stumbled on this coffee shop while exploring historic sites in Kyoto. Look closely or you'll miss it!
3. % Arabica - Arashiyama
Hands down the best coffee shop with the best view. If you're waking up early to go see the bamboo grove or monkey park in Arashiyama, fit in time to grab a cup of coffee at % Arabica, located along the Katsura River.
With open windows and an outdoor seating area with private views of the surroundings, it's way too lovely to miss.
4. Sanwa Coffee Works - Osaka
Not to be confused with The Coffeeworks Project from London, this quaint spot in a cozy Osaka neighbourhood is warm, welcoming and delicious. The interior was filled with wood, plants and friendly people.
In their own words, "it will enrich your lifestyle and make you happy."
